The opportunity

We are looking for a friendly and self-motivated technician to work closely with students, tutors and fellow technicians in the Print and Dye Workshops which support the Textile Design program at Chelsea College of Arts. This person must be able to work independently but will also be working with a small team to deliver the discipline related content.

This is a technical teaching role specific to supporting the courses in the Design and Material Practices programme and will involve a wide variety of print and dye skills which will include, silk screen printing (with specialist binders and/or dye), screen preparation and reclaiming, creating screen positives (digital and experimental), mono-screen printing, relief printing (such as lino and collagraph), dyeing a wide variety of fibres, sublimation printing, embossing,

As well as technical instruction in all aspects of Print and Dye related Health and safety, you’ll also be responsible for teaching core screen print skills. Experience with relevant design and cam software is required. Any additional skills in emerging textiles practices which may include responsive textiles, embedded electronics, plant-based print and dyeing and bio-materials would be an advantage.

About you

Students are at the forefront of this role and some experience in teaching making skills at HE level is desirable. We are looking for a candidate to assist with course aligned teaching for small groups as well as independent 1-1 teaching. A basic familiarity with online teaching tools is also very desirable skill.
